๐ถ โSomeday weโll find it, the rainbow connection. The lovers, the dreamers and me…โ

The beautiful Rainbow Mountains is located in Zhangye National Geopark (ๅผ ๆๅฝๅฎถๅฐ่ดจๅ ฌๅญ) Itโs been on my China bucket list ever since I moved here in 2016. I was finally able to visit in October 2020, and it was so amazing! ๐ The geopark is comprimised of a few different scenic areas, Iโve added the BingGuo scenic area down below as well so keep reading if youโd like! ๐ค
To get to the Rainbow Mountains you need to fly to Zhangye, China (YZY) โ๏ธ ๐จ๐ณ which is located in Gansu province up north bordering Inner Mongolia. From Shanghai it was about a 5ish hour flight with one stop over in Lanzhou.
When you get to the Rainbow Mountains of course you have to buy a ticket. ๐ซ I went with a tour group so our tour guide gathered all our passports , we showed our Green QR code (since Covid, everybody in China has QR codeโs. They can be red, yellow or green. Green obviously means โAll clearโ) After we got our tickets we were shown to a massive line a buses that took us to the mountains!
The bus system at the Rainbow Mountains was actually quite impressive! ๐๐ผ They are constantly running back and forth from each scenic stop. There are 4 stops total!
โข1st stop -Here youโll see a small section of the Rainbow Mountains. This is also where the helicopter rides are. I didnโt fly in one, but theyโre quite short, I believe around 10 minutes. ๐

- 2nd stop-A lot bigger than the first stop! Mountains arenโt as colorful, but still beautiful! This stop has a slight incline going up to the viewing area, so be prepared.
- 3rd stop we skipped! We were running short of time so ๐ ๐ ๐ปโโ๏ธ
- 4th stop- This was the main event! ๐ Mountains here are the most colorful! ๐Definitely a lot more crowded. Thereโs a great view of the mountains as soon as you get off the bus. And then thereโs a set of stairs taking you up for another epic view!

I hope you get to visit these beautiful mountains one day! It really is a sight to see! ๐ of course when traveling through China itโs always good to have in mind that youโll be around lots of crowds! I traveled here during Chinaโs National Holiday which is the biggest holiday after Chinese New Year, so yes it was busy! (even after Covid!)
BingGuo DanXia scenic area
On this same day we actually visited the beautiful scenic area close to the Rainbow Mountains called BingGuo DanXia (ๅฐๆฒ) this was our first stop of the day. It took us about an hour and half from our hotel to get here and we spent around 2ish hours here. It was so stunning! ๐ฎ If you have time I would definitely recommend stopping here!

Once we arrived, a bus took us to the first stop. We got there around 10:30am so there was hardly any people! Everyone tends to go directly to the Rainbow Mountains close by so itโs like we had the whole area to ourselves! ๐
- 1st stop consisted of some beautiful views! But to get there we had to climb up a set of very steep stairs! ๐ it was worth it!! Take your time going up and down!
- 2nd stop we took a bus to this next location. Itโs not as steep as the previous stop, but there were still plenty of steps.

Thanks for reading this far!! China has so many beautiful destinations! I hope yโall are able to add these 2 to the list!! ๐๐ผ let me know if yโall have any questions or comments!
** I didnโt edit any of these pics or videos! Wanted to show the natural beauty!!** ๐ฌ
