Costa Maya, Mexico 🇲🇽

It was my first time in Mexico in about 20 years and y’all, I was excited!! 😆

Royal Caribbean, Grandeur of the Seas

I came here in August 2022 while on a cruise with Royal Caribbean. And it wasn’t quite what I expected 😅

So I guess this blog post is pretty much what NOT to do in Costa Maya. 😅

I gotta say Costa Maya is so gorgeous. The blue waters are so mesmerizing and picturesque. 😍

First of all I should say we did not schedule an excursion which most people do while on a cruise. They had some nice looking ones. But we opted to just get a taxi to beach nearby as the concierge on the ship told us it was doable.

We found our way to the taxi stand and asked the workers there about a beach nearby and they suggested one about 10 minutes away by taxi. So here’s the money breakdown 😳

  • $20 for a 10 minute taxi to this exclusive beach😅

And then get this….

  • $80 for a beachfront table. This was at a lil restaurant, kinda like reserving our spots. But food at the restaurant wasn’t even included. 😂
  • $20 to take us back to the port

Soooo $120 total!!! 🤨

Y’all this was NOT a beach. It was like a kiddie pool with a barrier. A middle part of the water where small boats passed thru and then the ocean was further out. Idk if that makes sense. But it was weird. I’ll put a video here so you can see yourself.

See what I mean? 😬

So we left my dad at our $80 table (lol) and went for a walk around as there are lots of shops and little stalls.

Side note: As I said before, I haven’t been to Mexico in yearssssss so I forgot how pushy people are! Following you to come into their shop and have a look. Yelling at you across the way to check out their trinkets. Giving you a compliment so you can come into their store 😂🙈 someone even told me “hola princessa” 😳 (how do they know 🤔)

We bought nothing and soon realized we were getting ripped off. Sooo back to the port we went. Did my mom complain and get her money back?? Yes, yes she did! 😅

We were better off staying where the cruise drops us off because there was plenty to do! So even if you don’t buy an excursion from your cruise…you can still enjoy the shopping, bars and restaurants that are located right there by the water.

The port area 🛍🍹🌴

There was a nice pool with plenty of seats. To sit there you just needed to buy a drink. There was live music. Iguanas roaming around. Flamingos. Fresh coconuts. A cigar shop and a dolphin experience!

We had lunch at a restaurant right by the water called El Faro Beer & Grill and it was delicious. Expensive. ($120) But delicious. Lol. A whole plate of pico de gallo and guacamole made fresh. Beef tacos and quesadillas. And Mexican cokes (y’all Mexican Coke just hits different! It’s so quenching!)

Check out this feast 😋

I of course found the fresh coconuts 🥥 and had to have one! We did some shopping and then headed back to the ship. 🚢

🌴🥥

Sooooo in conclusion. Go on an excursion in Costa Maya 😅 or just chill right there at port!!! Either way you’ll be surrounded by good vibes, food and fun 😎

Adios péngyǒumen! ✌🏼
